Today I had a 5:00pm co-ed touch football game at Roosevelt Island for one of the 2.5 teams on which I play. Unfortunately, it wasn't my Suze team (that was yesterday at Randall's island - a site of strange buildings and construction sites, one-too-many potholes, one-too-few porter potties, gorgeous turf fields we don't get to play on, crappy rock/glass/bottle cap filled "grass" fields we have to play on, the exciting surprise of an 18-hole putt putt course, and, this week, Cirque du Soleil). But there were our blossoms and the beginning of this blog.

In fact, there were two beginnings at the field today - the cherry blossoms and The World Traveler, back from abroad and in town to see some friends and of course watch his old team play. He's now the resident photographer it seems, shutter happy from an incredible number of countries visited and famous sites seen as his subjects. I bought myself lilacs and Gerbera daisies, red and yellow, to commemorate the occasion.
We won our game (handily as seems to be the pleasant norm these days), I said goodbye to The World Traveler (don't worry he'll be back to my apartment on Tuesday!), and rode back over the East River on the tram, taking in one last glimpse of the cherry blossoms on this Sunday afternoon. While the annual Cherry Blossom festival in D.C. may be over, Suze and my Roosevelt Island inspiration will live on for a least a few more weeks. And, then when the blossoms drop for good this spring, we will just be on to more adventures this summer - me, Suze, the Initials, The World Traveler, and all.
